It's time to set up your holiday streaming campaign

Are you ready to reach holiday shoppers on CTV? For many streamers, the season is already underway.

Last year, according to Roku internal data, holiday content searches on Roku saw an 86% increase during October. And in November, those searches rise an average of 39% weekly. This surging holiday spirit is mirrored by consumer activity, as about half of Roku streamers shopped Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in 2025.

Meeting those shoppers is easier than you might think. Begin with the seasonal outcome you hope to drive: awareness, online sales, leads, store visits, or another measurable goal. From there, define your audience, upload your creative, set the budget and campaign dates, and establish measurement before launching. You can even create a shoppable ad unit that lets streamers buy with a click of their remote.

Our holiday playbook offers a month-by-month guide to reaching shoppers during this all-important time of year.

First-time spenders get a $5,000 match on the first $5,000 spent with code BEEHIIV5K. Terms apply.

We counted the skills in every new job Dev List collected during one week this fall: 552 posts from company career pages. It's one week, so read it as a snapshot. Still, the pattern is hard to miss.

Python appeared in more than half the posts, and nothing else came close. If you only know one language well and it isn't Python, that's worth an honest look.

Jobs: where the openings sit

  • Remote: 180 of the 552 posts, about one in three, were marked remote.

  • Posted pay: 392 posts listed a range. The median midpoint was $156,000 overall and about $161,500 for remote roles.

  • Specialties: data had 67 posts, DevOps and SRE 65, AI and ML 55, backend 49 and frontend 20. Many others were general software roles.

  • Contract: only 18 posts were contract work. Almost everything else was full-time.

One number gets attention and deserves a warning. Posts naming Rust had a median midpoint of $245,000, but that's only 19 posts with pay listed, and xAI and Anthropic are in the mix. That says more about who's hiring than what Rust is worth on its own.

Skill: pair a language with where it runs

Python plus AWS or Kubernetes describes a lot of these posts. If you write code but have never deployed it yourself, that's your gap to close this month. roadmap.sh has free learning paths for backend and DevOps.

Your next step: take a small project, put it in a container and get it running on a cloud free tier. Then write down what broke.

Money: count before you study

Before you pay for any course, open ten postings for the job you actually want and tally the skills yourself. Your own count beats our average, and it may save you from studying the wrong thing. If it points to a real gap, Educative is one paid option for structured practice. (Affiliate link: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.)
